Best wishes, Barbara Franz Open Call: Fulbright Specialist Migration Project The Fulbright Specialist Program (FSP) is seeking a highly qualified professional to serve as a Specialist for the five-week project "Refugee and Migration Integration in Higher Education" to take place in Brussels, Belgium in October 2017. The Fulbright Specialist Program (FSP), part of the larger Fulbright Program, was established in 2001 by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). The program pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills, gain international experience, and learn about other cultures while building capacity at their overseas host institutions. Grant benefits include international round-trip economy class airfare, transit allowance, all applicable visa fees, a daily honorarium, enrollment in a limited health benefits program, lodging, meals, and in-country transportation. Host Institution: Académie de Recherche et d’Enseignement Supérieur (ARES)/Academy of Research and Higher Education Proposed Timeframe: Mid to late October 2017, 26 days Location of Project: Brussels, Belgium Project Activities ARES is an umbrella organization that supports all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in pursuing their missions. Within HEIs in Belgium, the ongoing refugee crisis continues to be a major concern, and many institutions have begun developing specific initiatives to respond to the crisis. Through this Fulbright Specialist project, ARES aims to support the development and reinforcement of HEIs’ capacities to respond effectively and sustainably to the needs of refugee students, researchers and scholars. Proposed activities for the Fulbright Specialist are as follows: • Conduct visits to HEIs to share best practices in refugee/migrant inclusion, advise on the further development of capacities within HEIs, and support less active HEIs in developing specific initiatives for refugees/migrants. • Assist in promoting the role of ARES as a major coordinating body and forum for HEIs as well as highlighting the role of HEIs in refugee/migrant inclusion. • Compose a report on all HEI visits including an analysis of existing initiatives and recommendations for further actions. Preferred Qualifications • Minimum of 6-8 years of professional experience in higher education at a university/college or NGO. • Experience developing and implementing initiatives for refugee and migrant integration and inclusion within a higher education system. • Intermediate level of French.
