The India Voices season at UCL marks the 70th anniversary of Indian independence with a number of exciting cross-disciplinary public events, spanning performance, film screenings, discussions and lectures. The City After Hours
As the notion of London as a 24 hour city is debated, we consider the way in which cities have been the loci of inclusion and exclusion, policing and controlling, after-hours. Professor Matthew Beaumont and Ruth Austin will be joined by other researchers for a panel discussion to consider the city ‘after hours’ from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. More >>

Black Shirts, the 18b Testimony of Flora Poole, Spinner
Rehearsed reading of a new production by award-winning playwright Nicola Baldwin. The timely play explores the participation of women in 1930s far-right politics, after the lead charachter moves to London in the hope of prosperity, but ends up joining the British Union of Fascists youth section on their crusade towards the ‘Greater Britain’ and the battle of Cable Street.More >>

Urban Lab Films present Oslo, August 31st
As part of the first edition of London's new Architecture Film Festival, Urban Lab Films hosts a screening of the critically-acclaimed Oslo, August 31st at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA). Director Joachim Trier and Scriptwriter Eskil Vogt will be in discussion with Dr Claire Thomson from UCL Scandinavian Studies on how the film captures the rapidly evolving urban landscape of the Norwegian capital.

Nightlife Spaces and the Future City: The Bartlett Future Cities Doctoral Network
Dr Ben Campkin and Laura Marshall (UCL Urban Laboratory) open a dialogue on future city spaces at night, through a history of nightlife spaces in London. Clémentine Cottineau from The Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis also presents on how the morphology and size of cities is likely to influence human behaviour.

Bloomsbury SOUP
Students in the East is a student-staff collaborative project exploring students' experience of the Bloomsbury campus, to inform new UCL developments in the east of London. The UCL student community is invited to attend and take part in this event, which will feature proposals for improving campus life and group workshops. A vote at the end of the SOUP will determine the winner of a £100 voucher and support to launch their proposal.

Short course

University Urbanism: Campus Development and Urban Regeneration
An intensive one-day course presenting comparative case studies and good practice guidelines on university campus development which engage with and contribute to wider urban regeneration goals, positioning universities as ‘anchor institutions’. Aimed at developers and consultants, university estates professionals, town planners, masterplanning firms, and architectural practices, the course will address specific industry challenges in the field of university-led urban regeneration.

As part of our SITE project, students have created a survey with UCL Library Services to review how current users feel about the spaces. We intend to use responses to inform the design of such spaces on UCL's future Stratford campus.
