Ilka,

I had a brief attempt several months ago to get to grips with this (or to be precise with ‘linked data’) but like you could not find much ‘concrete’, and eventually I got pulled back onto ‘real’ work. I had found some help in looking at BNB, and references to a useful company called Zepheira; and through the Library Link Network I had started to learn about Boston University Libraries who (“jwacooks”) were publishing records from Alma as linked – this last was the only case where I managed to find an example of an actual record which seemed to be linked data (i.e. a concrete example) but I was just reaching the point of realising that ‘whatever I am looking at, it is not really linked data’ when the real world reasserted itself.

If any of this sounds useful, I could probably supply a few more specific details (links etc.), though they will now be months old. However, mainly, I’d be as interested as you in hearing what others say.

Best wishes,

Alan

Subject: Linked Data

Hello

At York, we are investigating how to implement linked open data.  Our LMS is Alma with Primo as the discovery tool, both supporting 'linked data'.

We are especially interested in building relationships in our catalogue between our collections and external online resources/websites but are struggling to find any information on how to implement this.

I can find a wealth of r

esearch about the semantic web / linked data

but nothing much from a

metadata

 perspective

about implementing linked data locally

For example, I have read about the Library Link Network but nothing about how linked data works in practice.

Would anyone be willing to share any experiences of implementing Linked Data in their own libraries along with any recommendations?

Best wishes

Ilka Heale
