Dear colleagues, apologies for cross-posting,

Flexible working is being seen as the new norm in terms of how we manage our work and private lives. But we also see a stall in its take up, with working culture and a flexibility stigma mentioned as some of the key causes. Further, what are some of the other consequences of flexible working, for example on work intensity, wages, gender equality?

This two day conference is the final dissemination conference of the ESRC funded Work Autonomy Flexibility & Work-Life Balance project, (Grant ES/K009699/1) where the access to and outcomes of flexible working has been examined using UK and European data.

There are two events.

Academic workshop “Flexible working, The way of the future?”

22nd of May, LSE, London: This workshop brings leading scholars from across different disciplines and across Europe and the US to discuss key emerging themes surrounding flexible working. The key themes of the conference are flexible working and work culture, flexible working and gender equality, and unintended consequences of flexible working.

Policy conference “Flexible working: Time for a Reflection?”

23rd of May LSE, London: This policy conference will be the launch event of the final report from the WAF project. Alongside the presentation of the results of the project, there will be three round table discussions focusing on some of the key areas surrounding flexible working and its outcomes. There will also be a speech from the Chair of the UK’s Parliament Select Committee on Women & Equalities, and representation from a wide range of stakeholders and policy bodies such, as the TUC, ETUC, Business Europe, CMI, CIPD, DWP, ILO, Working Families, and COFCAE.

Both events are free, but registration is essential.
