About the opportunity
The Faculty of Health Sciences is the largest health science faculty in Australia and is internationally recognized for quality and innovation in teaching and research. Disability and community research is one of the substantive research strengths within the faculty.
The Centre for Disability Research and Policy (CDRP) is a university centre housed at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The centre brings together the University’s leading research expertise in disability to create greater theoretical and empirical understanding of disability and to improve policy decision making. The focus of the centre is on the social and economic participation of people with disabilities and their health and well-being over the life course.
The National Health and Medical Research Council Centre for Research Excellence in Disability and Health (CRE-DH): the first research centre of its kind internationally, the CRE-DH will gather the evidence needed to guide social and health policy reform with the explicit intent of improving the health of working-age Australians with disabilities. The CRE-DH involves researchers from across Australia and internationally with expertise in epidemiology, health economics, health and social policy, psychology, psychiatry, public administration and public health. At the University of Sydney the CRE-DH is led by Professor Gwynnyth Llewellyn, with Professor Anne Kavanagh from the University of Melbourne as lead CI on the CRE-DH.
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Research Fellow to join our multidisciplinary team to analyse national administrative and survey data related to mapping social, economic and health inequities for people with disabilities. You will conduct analysis of large scale national administrative and survey data sets and work closely with Australian Bureau of Statistics officers in accessing, identifying and analysing relevant data sets. You will also contribute to the development of a monitoring framework to track progress in reducing inequities over time. There may also be an opportunity to contribute to the other work programs within the CRE-DH.
You will be supervised by Professor Gwynnyth Llewellyn. Being part of this team will provide you with unique training and mentorship opportunities to become a leading quantitative researcher in the field. People with a lived experience of disability are encouraged to apply.

· a PhD in a relevant area
· demonstrated expertise in analysis of large complex data sets (e.g., administrative data, national surveys) including linked data sets
· knowledge of social service data sets
· knowledge of national survey and administrative data on disability (desirable)
· a track record in international peer-reviewed scientific publications
· a track record in multi-strategy dissemination of research findings (desirable)
· experience in working productively in multi-disciplinary research team
· previous experience/ knowledge of disability research (desirable).
You will have a strong commitment to equity in health and to improving the social, economic and health outcomes of people with disabilities.
