The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health, with 3,900 students and more than 1,000 staff working in over 100 countries.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic medical statistician/epidemiologist/data analyst, with a track record in epidemiological research, to support work on research projects on Zika in Brazil.

The postholder will provide methodological and technical support to our partners in Brazil on the design of new studies and preparation of relevant data analysis plans, overall quality monitoring of the data, statistical analysis of data, and to contribute to the preparation of reports and publications. The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the analysis and write up of research outputs (concerning both substantive findings and methodological issues) in peer reviewed publications. The postholder will also document and review issues that may be encountered during data analysis and contribute to the design of related research protocols, including performing sample size calculations and drafting analysis plans. The role also requires an element of teaching and mentoring for MSc students, particularly of those with relevant Zika summer projects.

You will be based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and will be working closely with the Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, with the possibility of occasional trips to Brazil.

The postholder must have a doctoral degree in Medical Statistics or other relevant quantitative science such as Epidemiology or Population Health. The successful candidate will also have experience in managing and analysing data sets and the ability to visualise the results of complex data sets, in particular for non-scientific audiences. The postholder will have strong quantitative statistical analysis skills along with substantial experience of using STATA. The ability to work both independently and with a multidisciplinary scientific team are also essential. The postholder must be willing to undertake occasional travel to Brazil.

It is available on a full time basis commencing as soon as possible, and is funded until 31 March 2019 in the first instance, with possibility to extend. The salary will be on the LSHTM Academic Pathway Grade 7 scale, in the range £44,226 – £47,012 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
