Dear all,

Apologies for cross posting. I wanted to bring to your attention the following post in Lloyd's Register Foundation's Heritage and Education Centre. The position is for the "Project Undaunted Assistant Conservator", which will initially be a fixed term contract for a year. After this, there will also be ad-hoc conservation over the following 2 years. The closing date for this post is the 22/08/16 and the position offers a competitive salary and benefits.

The Lloyd’s Register Foundation is the owner of the Lloyd’s Register Group, which has a vibrant history spanning over 250 years, originally known for the classification and survey of ships. During that time, a varied collection of documents have been created by Lloyd’s Register relating to the maritime industry. A small proportion of the collection has become the focus of Project Undaunted, mainly comprised of survey reports, certificates, ship plans, correspondences and photographs that were created during ship surveys from 1834 onwards. Project Undaunetd is the Lloyd’s Register Foundation’s venture to catalogue, conserve, digitise and create educational resources for the plans and survey reports part of the collection so that they can be used by academics and members of the public. This initial phase of the project aims to catalogue and digitise 10% of this unique collection.

Although the plans and survey reports collection is partially indexed and conserved, further work is needed to make it suitable for digitisation and archival documents also need reboxing. The Heritage and Education Centre seek a candidate, who will work as a conservator as part of the Project Undaunted team.

Purpose of post:
To undertake practical conservation of the holdings of Lloyd’s Register Foundation (plans and survey reports) involved in Project Undaunted in order to prepare material for scanning, maintain and improve storage for specified holdings; apply preservation policies and advise on conservation matters using best professional practice as directed by the Heritage and Education Centre.

Please note that if there are a large number of applications, the closing date may be brought forward.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,
Charlotte Atkinson
