Is this perhaps part of a decorative program celebrating the orthodox clergy's expression of triumph over the medieval heretics in that region? I recall having suspected something of the kind when I visited that cathedral years ago.

I am trying to figure out a detail in an image of the Last Judgement which has me puzzled. All of the Apostles are dressed alike, not in the standard "biblical" robes but in long-sleeved tunics (or albs?) which appear to reach to their feet. They are mauve in colour, with gold at the collar and sleeves, which flare out a bit at the extremities, partly covering their hands. Would these be liturgical vestments of some sort? And if so, why would Apostles be so dressed? I believe this image dates from the mid-16th century, which may be a bit post-medieval, but certainly not beyond the expertise of this splendid list. Any suggestions about this would be most welcome.
Cheers,
Jim
