Happy Friday Folks!

I need some help; one of our consultants has mailed me asking for this:

“For a talk I wanted to know approximately how many operations per year were done when at the start of the NHS 1948 versus currently (most recent data) and approximately how many medicines were available in 1948 versus now.

I have tried a variety of searches on Google - my standard search - but not come up with anything and have looked at Kings Fund and found little.”

I’ve got a couple of Kings Fund books which have some facts and figures in them, but am not coming up with much else. Does anyone have any inspiration they could share before I spend the whole day searching?

Many thanks in advance for any help,

Emma.
