Outstanding post-doctoral scientists wanted for cutting-edge HIV research (5 posts) This is an excellent opportunity for outstanding and motivated post-doctoral researchers to conduct cutting-edge post-doctoral research in a highly stimulating environment with access to data from one of the most comprehensive population-based HIV cohorts and genomics datasets in the world at the Wellcome Trust Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies based in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The Centre has a proud history of being at the forefront of HIV research. With state of the art facilities and over 15 years of conducting population-based HIV testing in a population of 100,000 individuals, the Centre has generated unique insights into the evolution of the HIV epidemic resulting in high profile publications and substantial impact on global HIV policy. The Centre has just received 5 year funding from the UK Wellcome Trust and US National Institutes of Health. These post-doctoral positions will form part of a larger cutting-edge research initiative that aims to drive back the HIV epidemic and its negative consequences in the communities in sub-Saharan Africa hardest hit by the epidemic. The successful candidates will be supervised by scientists who are leaders in their respective fields and who have access to a large international network of collaborators. The incumbents will be part of an outstanding multi-disciplinary team of statisticians, epidemiologists, mathematical modellers, social scientists, clinical trialists, bioinformaticians and other experts from diverse fields to answer the most pressing problems in HIV today. Successful candidates will receive a generous tax-free stipend for two years and be afforded numerous opportunities and support to launch their own independent research careers through the attainment of fellowship funding. Candidates will be situated at the state of the art laboratories in the University of KwaZulu-Natal in the beautiful city of Durban, which is a sub-tropical city on the Indian Ocean coast of South Africa.
