This Biostatistician position is an exciting opportunity for a recent PhD or Masters Graduate with a passion for analysing large clinical datasets with the latest in statistical and data analysis techniques.

Perspectum Diagnostics, a University of Oxford spinout, was founded by physicians, scientists and engineers to exploit their patented technology and know-how to develop solutions for major unmet needs in diagnostic medicine. Perspectum’s first product, LiverMultiScan, is an MRI-based service that has regulatory clearance to aid clinicians in the diagnosis of early liver disease.

LiverMultiScan is the only liver imaging test included in the UK Biobank study of 100,000 subjects making it the largest liver epidemiology study ever undertaken. In combination with the other clinical information captured for these subjects, this dataset provides an exceptional opportunity for a talented biostatistician to advance our understanding of liver disease and help improve patient management.

The Biostatistician task is to embed research knowledge in biostatistics for the analysis of large datasets into the company. Developing these skills in a complex and commercial environment will provide significant experience and a unique opportunity for career progression. We would expect the Associate to develop skills in leadership, management and an understanding of complex business processes.

This position includes a dedicated training and development budget (£6000 over 3 years), in addition to a two-week business and management training course in the first year. The successful candidate will also have to opportunity to receive commercial training in business development, IP management, translational medicine and product development as part of this role.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP)

This post forms an integral role in a project funded by Innovate UK’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme. KTP celebrate 40 years of operation this year and is one of the UKs largest graduate programmes helping businesses to improve their competitiveness, productivity and performance through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that are available within the UK knowledge base. In your role as Biostatistician (KTP Associate) you will be based at Perspectum Diagnostics’ premises but will work closely with the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Westminster. You will be expected to take the lead on managing the project by transferring knowledge between the University and the company.

In addition to being supported by experienced staff from the business and the University you will be allocated a generous training budget plus an allocation of 10% of time to further your development.

This is a rare opportunity to work on a potential ground-breaking project and to gain industrial exposure to experienced industry professionals who have very high expectations.

The candidate:

You will have practical experience in statistics and data analysis with a recent PhD or Masters degree in a relevant field. You will have a passion for analysing large clinical datasets with the latest statistical and data science techniques, including machine learning and experience with R.

Ideally, you will have experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team modelling clinical data and building risk prediction models. Whilst you will be based at Perspectum Diagnostics’ office in Oxford, you will be required to occasionally travel to the University of Westminster, the UK Biobank site in Cheadle, and internationally to relevant conferences.
