My client is currently seeking a Business Intelligence Manager for a role based in Birmingham. The contract will be initially 6 months with a view to extending. The candidate will have solid experience in Cognos and ideally some exposure to GIS or Geospatial Technologies.

For this role you must have current SC clearance. 

The aim of the role is to identify, define and deliver against business requirements, deploying the business intelligence capabilities, including geospatial web services, to improve effectiveness and efficiency through the analytical exploitation of estate and reference data sets within the BI environment.

Therefore, the post requires an individual who is highly analytical and able to engage with stakeholders to apply skills and knowledge on the capability of BI to help define how BI can provide a solution to their business challenges, as well as the day-to-day engagement with the user base to provide a high level of expertise to support their activities utilising the BI toolsets.

The post has to interact with stakeholders at all levels across the business as well as the BI function as a whole. The postholder must have credibility based upon experience of delivering via the use of BI tools and be able to represent the relevant teams based upon experience in the following key areas: exploitation of BI tools; definition and support of user acceptance testing activities; user engagement to improve skills and knowledge across the business; enhancing the capability of the BI function to deploy through the application of knowledge to develop the BI solution; delivering against a delivery plan; project management principles; helping with the facilitation of workshops to promote good practice and influence attitudes.

The postholder must have a range of skills across the BI toolset, and is expected to be recognised as an expert user in exploiting these tools by users across the business. Therefore, there is a requirement for the postholder to maintain current awareness of the development of the tools to be able to identify opportunities for their further exploitation and to be able to share this knowledge both within the client directorate and more widely across the business. 

Role Responsibilities are broken down as follows;

Leadership and Management of the BI Delivery team 5%

•Manage individuals to contribute to business outputs
•Demonstrate a personal commitment to the Guiding Principles
•Develop staff and support line manager in delivering departmental goals
•Ensure local compliance with mandatory requirements e.g. H&S training
•Promote strong working relationships both within the team and with other teams across the client.


2.    Geospatial Web Requirements Management  10%

•Liaise and gather requirements from stake holders that have a geospatial context and applying a standard procedure is applied to this activity.
•Develop the User requirement into a technical specification of the Web service requirement in technical terms; create test scripts and facilitate User acceptance testing.
•Identify and document the information needs of the required Web services and proactively engage with the
Data Services section to procure and/or have access to these


3.    Geospatial Web Services Delivery 25%

•Develop and document generic testing procedures for acceptance of Web Services into the delivery phase including 'go/no go' criteria
•Develop test Stake Holder test scenarios for the requirement(s) being delivered including specific 'go/no go' criteria
•Facilitate the Stake holder acceptance testing, liaising with the Users to gain support for the testing, providing test materials including data as appropriate
•Document the success or otherwise of the testing including the production of the acceptance or rejection report, issues and fault logs.


4.    Project manage Web Service Requirement Specification 10%

•Responsible for identifying the risks and issues, management of stakeholder expectations, initial resource estimation and business case production.

5.    Maintain Geospatial Requirements and Services Catalogue 10%

•Create and maintain a requirements catalogue grouped by capability type
•Update and maintain a Web services catalogue identifying information and data dependencies

6.    Delivery of BI solutions utilising BI tools (other than geospatial) 40%

•Development and delivery of BI outputs utilising the suite of BI tools
•Definition and support of user acceptance testing activities
•Specification of enhancements to the BI solution to improve functionality 
•User engagement to improve skills and knowledge across the business
•Enhancing the capability of the BI function to deploy through the application of knowledge to develop the BI solution
