Subject: Feminist Legal Studies zine call for contributions

Dear all

'At the Kitchen Table': The Feminist Legal Studies Zine

The international journal Feminist Legal Studies warmly invites you to contribute a page to a zine in celebration of FLS’s 25th Birthday. For information about feminist zines and examples, check out this resource site Grrrl Zine Network.

The FLS zine will be displayed and distributed at The FLaK seminar: Mixing Feminism, Legality and Knowledge, Queen Mary, University of London, 30 June – 1 July 2016, co-hosted with the Institute of Feminist Legal Studies at Osgoode. The FLaK seminar aims to draw reflexively on feminist legacies of praxis and internationalism and openness.  We want also to ‘stock-up’ and critically reflect on:

·         decolonizing techniques

·         legal know-how

·         protest and publishing practices (read more here and here).

The zine offers a way to exemplify and explore these themes through a particular practice, whilst also bringing a new creative aspect to the ‘kitchen table’ of feminist legal studies in our discussion of how best to use its food, equipment, techniques, time, space, mood, energy and commitment.

Contributions

Zine creators can choose to design either one A4 page or a double page spread. Contributors can choose either one A4 page or a double page spread. It must be related to feminism and law, but can be an image, text, or combination; a call to action, list of demands, placard for a demo, short comic strip, satirical image, photographs, and so on … ideas are limited only by your imagination!  Formatting: pages can be produced in any programme, but must be in A4 dimensions and converted to pdf. for submission to editors.

Deadlines

29 February:    If you are interested in contributing to the zine, please email Nikki Godden-Rasul ([log in to unmask]) and Yvette Russell ([log in to unmask]).

31 May: Pages due to the zine editors, Nikki and Yvette.

30 June:        Zine published, displayed and distributed at the FLaK seminar!

Be heard at the kitchen table

Zines will be displayed at the FLaK seminar and editors will collate a selection for publication in an issue of Feminist Legal Studies.  Zine contributors will be invited to discuss their creation in the ‘Reflections’ section of the journal, explaining the research behind the page and reflecting on the creative process and product – for example, the reasons the author chose the particular content and form, and its role in contributing to and challenging knowledges and knowledge production.

For further information, email Nikki Godden-Rasul ([log in to unmask]) and Yvette Russell ([log in to unmask]).

Best wishes

Nikki
