This course will cover :
*       A brief history of lacquer and japanned furniture (Christopher Rowell)
*       Technology of lacquer, scientific investigation and the implications for conservation (Julie Chan)
*       Construction and care of lacquer and japanning (Tristram Bainbridge)
*       Plans for Care: Identifying and Recording Condition (Siobhan Watts & Kate Hoad)

This course aims to give attendees a better understanding of the history of lacquer and japanned furniture. It will also help staff to differentiate between the two techniques, know what damage is common, and how to care appropriately for these objects within their own collections.
