Dear Jess, In response to your enquiry Exmoor National Park do not yet make charges for HER searches or advice, although there is the following statement in our Charging Policy (2010): Where searches are exceptionally complicated or take up a large amount of staff time there may be a charge to cover the costs. This will be at the Historic Environment Record Officer's discretion. To date we have not charged citing the above circumstances and our current preference is still not to charge but this may be reviewed, especially as more authorities do charge. I would be very grateful to know how many other local authorities still do not yet charge for these : a. HER/UAD searches b. for advice (preparing the brief, monitoring fieldwork, scrutinising the WSI and report, etc.).
