Dear Forum members

Historic England has launched four new paid-for planning and listing advice services. The services are enhancements to the existing free services offered. Historic England will be able to provide a bespoke service for owners and developers' large and complex planning applications. Using these services will save time on permissions and planning applications, saving owners money and making it more appealing to take on heritage-led development projects.

The services are:

Fast-track listing
If customers need to find out more quickly whether a place will be listed or not or would like a Certificate of Immunity from Listing to be considered, Historic England will fast-track their part in the process. They will give a guaranteed timeframe for making a recommendation to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport who make the decision.

Extended pre-application advice
In cases where Historic England will be consulted by the local council on planning permission or listed building consent, they offer a free service of up to 15 hours of pre-application advice. A new paid-for extended pre-application service (beyond 15 hours) provides a dedicated specialist to give constructive feedback on proposals, for example suggesting ways in which potential conflicts might be avoided.

Listing Enhancement
Entries for buildings on the National Heritage List for England are sometimes brief and many entries are over 40 years old. If customers need to find out what part of the building is specifically covered by a listing, then a listing enhancement service will give detailed information about what is of special interest and what is protected as part of the listing.

Listing Screening Service
For those who need to find out whether buildings or structures across a substantial area of land might be of historic interest, Historic England will carry out a survey and provide a report to assess the likelihood of any structures needing consideration for listing.

The prices will cover costs but as Historic England is a public body, the pricing structure is based on the time spent on the particular project.

Jane
