Hello Colleagues

From institutional confinement to care in the community, mental health nursing has seen many significant changes throughout its history, with the profession following a very different path from that of general nursing. The RCN’s new events and exhibitions series explores that history, with talks both in and out of London on subjects from care in the asylum environment to mental health and learning disability. The series begins with the launch of our new exhibition Out of the Asylum: The History of Mental Health Nursing, on display from 5 October to 4 March 2016 at the Library and Heritage Centre, London.

All events are free to attend. Take a look at the first few talks listed below and perhaps combine your visit with a browse of the exhibition, which will be showing off the best of our collections, including an electro-convulsive therapy machine and 'Mental Hospital Bathing Rules'.
