Supporting Staff and Students with Autism and Learning Disorders
This event is about the provision of support for staff and students in higher education institutions with autism and learning disorders, and will consist of a speaker from a HE institution who is Head of
Disability and Dyslexia Services and also a PhD student from a HE institution who will be speaking about their experiences at their own institutions. A short video will be shown about an autistic student at university speaking about their experience. There
will also be an opportunity for attendees to exchange experiences and practices from their own institutions.
Marketing your Library
Are you looking for new ways to engage with your users? Come and join our session as we explore ways to interact with library users, be that face to face or through your virtual library services. You can
hear from a variety of speakers talk about their different viewpoints on this topic. We will explore new ways of looking at the services that libraries could provide online by examining the way researchers engage with online resources. You will also hear about
new communications and marketing projects which the speakers are engaged in. You will also get a detailed talk on how best to utilise social media and the strengths/weaknesses of each format. You can also brush up on your skills on dealing with face to face
communication.
Managing Student Behaviour
The 21st century university library environment has become in many respects regarded as a “safe place” and space to “feel at home” for many students. Alongside the traditional resources, the library may
replicate the comfort of a modern entertainment hub with cafés, big screen areas, comfy seating with demanding expectations from the patrons. In this atmosphere frontline staff may face increasingly difficult anti-social behaviour. Drawing on the rich experience
of the speakers this workshop will examine approaches to setting boundaries for behaviour while maintaining a friendly professional environment for learning and teaching support.
eCollections Management Workshop
This workshop will discuss and explain the fundamentals of e-resources collection development and management. The presentations will focus on electronic collection types that are central elements of digital
libraries today and also viewed as areas of growth for the future. Presentations will be given by Librarians experienced in these fields. This workshop will be of interest to library staff who are interested in working in eCollections Management, or who would
like an introduction to the issues and opportunities in this area.
Applying to Study Library and Information Science
Are you interested in studying Library and Information Science? This event brings together a range of speakers to inspire you and give you an insight into the experience of “going to Library School”. At
lunch time, there’s a course fair with opportunities to meet representatives from LIS courses. It’s a great networking opportunity with peers and other new professionals, and it’s your chance to get answers to all those burning questions about the whole process.
