We have a senior job out to advert in our Biochemical Genetics Unit.

Applications from motivated Clinical Scientists are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Scientist in the Biochemical Genetics Unit. You must be HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist and have completed FRCPath Part 1.

You will have the opportunity to develop a specialist interest in inborn errors of metabolism and newborn screening, while expanding your knowledge and experience in general Clinical Biochemistry (adult and paediatric) through the duty biochemist rota and access to departmental training opportunities. This post will allow you to develop transferable skills and experience in various methodologies including tandem mass spectrometry and a range of chromatographic techniques. Completion of FRCPath will be actively encouraged and supported.

The Biochemical Genetics Unit provides Newborn Blood Spot Screening for East Anglia, together with metabolic investigations for hospitals within this area and further afield. The unit benefits from excellent links with its users, with the clinical scientists being involved in metabolic clinics, case discussions and teaching in various departments locally and across the region. The laboratory team is committed to providing a friendly, responsive and efficient service.

You will need to demonstrate your ability to work well as part of the team and show your potential to develop excellent leadership skills.

In time, you will be expected to participate in all aspects of the metabolic and screening service, including clinical liaison, teaching and training, and IT administration, as well as deputising for the Director in their absence, and involvement in strategic management and service development.

Based in Blood Sciences at Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust, the Biochemical Genetics Unit is part of the Pathology Partnership which is a consortium of six Trusts working together to provide an NHS led pathology service.
