A further question: is "in usum juventutis" or any similar ascription such as "in usum juventutis scholasticae" invariably treated as an edition statement - presumably interpreting it as something like "student's edition"?

I would have thought a particular problem for those with "small Latin" (and probably "less Greek") would be case endings on names - in this case Tacito (ablative?) and turning them back into the nominative. Forms of names for Roman authors (praenomen, nomen and cognomen) might also pose a problem as regards which elements to use - although I assume AACR guidance (rule 22.9) would be followed?

Or generally speaking, how do you cope with something in a language that you don’t know very well?     ------------------------------------------------------ Iris O'Brien Early Printed Collections Cataloguing and Processing Manager The British Library St Pancras 96 Euston Road London NW1 2DB Tel.: +44 (0)20 7412 7731 E-mail: [log in to unmask]
