Multiple Positions in Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Operations
Research at Monash University, Australia

*Five new academic appointments across Levels A-E (Research Fellow,
Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, Professor)
*One new senior administrative appointment as MAXIMA program manager

Monash University has recently invested in strengthening its interdisciplinary mathematics capability with the launch of MAXIMA (the Monash Academy for Cross & Interdisciplinary Mathematical Applications) in late 2013 (see The inaugural Director of MAXIMA, Professor Kate Smith-Miles, has recently been awarded a five year Australian Laureate Fellowship from the Australian Research Council, and will remain as Director but has funding for a Deputy Director and additional positions. The opportunity now exists for six new appointments (five academic and one administrative) funded by a combination of the university's investment into MAXIMA, and the ARC Australian Laureate Fellowship research program.

All of the academic appointments require exceptional candidates in applied mathematics, applied statistics or operations research. The senior appointment (level E Professor or level D Associate Professor) is a continuing (permanent) teaching and research position, with the successful candidate assuming the role of Deputy Director of MAXIMA for the first five years. The remaining four academic positions are for a fixed term period of four years initially, with two of them teaching and research (levels B or C) within MAXIMA, and two of them research-only (levels A or B) as Postdoctoral Research Associates on the ARC Laureate Fellowship project.

Outstanding candidates in applied statistics, applied mathematics or operations research are invited to apply for the academic posts. Candidates should have outstanding records in academic performance, relative to opportunity, as well as some experience working on industrial problems or collaborating with interdisciplinary colleagues, consistent with the aims of MAXIMA.

The administrative position is the MAXIMA Program Manager, and is for three years in the first instance. The Program Manager works closely with the Director to oversee the delivery of MAXIMA's collaborative research, consulting, training and outreach activities.

*Apply here by 26th April 2015
