medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Thanks Meg! This sounds really fun. Look forward to it. It would be
fun to try to cross-compare your d/b with information about the
distribution of individuals of non-Icelandic origin in Iceland, just
to see whether there is a clustering of objects and individuals around
certain churches/schools/cloisters/church farms. I suspect, though,
that the sources are not going to allow for this - too much invested
in that old saga trope of the "travelling Icelander from the edge of
the word, magpie-collector of foreign words, thoughts and objects".
But I bet it happened, for all that!!

Good luck with your work,
katrina

>> Interestingly, location of (mostly not surviving) alabasters is quite good in Iceland! There are a number of "heads of John the Baptist". I believe the English summary with the article below will be helpful, though not of course for English provenance! And I haven't been able to find any indications of what English port(s) they might have been imported from.
