A conference on the CULTURAL REPRESENTATION OF THE HABSBURGS will take place on 19-20 May 2016 at the British Embassy Residence in Vienna, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death of Franz Joseph and the coronation of the last Habsburg emperor, Karl IV, in 1916.  The event is organised by Professors Peter I Barta and Phil Powrie (Univ of Surrey), in collaboration with the British Embassy in Vienna.

Papers in English are invited on literary, cinematic and other forms of visual representation of the Habsburgs.  The focus of the conference is on the cultural legacy of this dynasty, which played a crucial role in the formation of modern Europe identities. A refereed volume of essays based on talks at the conference is being planned.
