Hi All,

We've had similar issues with images not showing in announcements / emails when sent through Blackboard. We were told that the resolution was to give permission to students to the image in the Content Collection as others have mentioned below, however I feel that this is a bit too convoluted to expect an academic to have to carry out so many steps just to send an announcement. It seems that it's affecting quizzes as well, and I expect it affects other tools when images are used. It would be really useful if everyone emails Blackboard about this issue asking for it to be fixed as we always get told that unless lots of people request it, it will not get fixed as it's not technically a "bug". Whilst it might not be a bug, I think that the setting should somehow be included in the tools themselves when setting up a new quiz / announcement / email, or they should re-think the process.

Hiya,

We first experienced this problem when we migrated from WebCT to Blackboard SP8. We are now on BB April 2014 release and no longer experience this issue. We resolved it by adding students to the permissions of the image file in Course Files. The easiest approach would be to ensure instructors create a folder in Course Files for all images that will be used and add students to have read access to that folder.

We also recall issues with images being attached instead of embedded in the text editor.

This is interesting as one of the students who reported the issue to us was using Chrome. It's good to know that the image appears if the user right clicks on it to show picture.

yes, we've seen this issue. It seems to affect just a small number of students and it took us some time to replicate. From the report:

Unfortunately the issue is anything but consistent. The issue sporadically appears in IE regardless of the version being used, i.e. we were able to produce the issue in IE11, IE10, IE9 and IE8.  However the test also operated perfectly on occasion for IE11, IE10, IE9 and IE8.

The one suggestion we have is that when an image doesn't appear, if the user "right clicks" on the area where the image should be and clicks on "show picture" the image will appear. Doing this does not impact the test, i.e. the screen doesn't refresh, etc.

Both chrome and Firefox did operate well for accessing this test, i.e. we had no issue launching the test in either browser.

At the moment, we are recommending the use of Chrome for any lab-based tests.

We have had a couple of reports of images not working in quizzes for some students. This seems to be an intermittent issue and the images have worked before and after the quiz. Unfortunately we don't seem to be able to replicate it at the moment. Has anyone else come across this sort of issue?

We have had an ongoing issue with this for some time. We also add students to the permissions as discussed previously. It's been raised with Blackboard but we haven’t had any resolution.
