Professor in Biostatistics Karolinska Institutet, Department of Public Health Sciences Department At the Department of Public Health Sciences we conduct research, teaching and consultancy on the basis of the concepts of public health and epidemiology. The research is focused on health problems in the population and how to combat these through preventative social measures and the development of suitable health care systems. The activities have a strongly international character. The Department consists of approximately 140 employees who are divided into research groups which operate within the fields of global health, public health epidemiology and social medicine. In addition, we have approximately 100 research students. Duties The overall duties are to develop and strengthen research and training in biostatistics applied within the field of public health science. The new professor is expected to build and lead a research group, including supervision of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. The holder will interact with other research groups at the department, and contribute strategic quantitative methodological support. He/she will furthermore be involved in development of teaching at the Public Health Science programs. Responsibilities also include the pursuit of research grants in national and international competition, and collaboration with the University’s and other institutions’ networks /research groups in biostatistics. The position lastly involves strategic participation in County Council-initiated mission activities at the Centre for Epidemiology and Community Medicine. Entry requirements All professors at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical competence. The applicant should have a broad academic experience of biostatistics, and an interest in public health research. Previous experience from work in internationally competitive research environments, and ability to attract research grants as well as create international collaborations in the biostatistics field are required. Ability to lead on a strategic as well as operative level is highly qualifying, as are written and oral presentation skills. Bases of assessment When assessing the applicants, special emphasis will be placed on scientific skills within the academic subject area. The different qualities and qualifications will be weighted as follows: scientific skills (factor 3), teaching skills (factor 2), leadership, development and cooperation skills (factor 3).
