Research Associate/Fellow (Data Science)

This two-year post will focus on research of novel computational data mining/machine learning techniques in the realm of Big Data analytics. The role will dovetail an exciting new EPSRC-funded project “Neo-demographics: Opening Developing World Markets via Personal Data and Collaboration”, examining the use of Big Data to augment social policy via new forms of demographic intelligence in the developing world. Work will primarily involve the development of behavioural segmentation and predictive modelling techniques via novel computational and clustering methods applied to a rich range of data sources (from retail data to communications), provided by our international collaborators across developing economies (Tanzania, Malaysia and China).

The successful applicant will join the team at Horizon Digital Economy Research, a £40 million initiative funded by Research Councils UK, the University of Nottingham and over 100 academic and industrial partners, brings together an interdisciplinary team with expertise from a wide variety of backgrounds including computer science, maths, geospatial science, psychology, sociology and business.

Candidates must have a Postgraduate Qualification (or equivalent) in Computer Science or Applied Mathematics (or an equivalent experience in a related discipline). Evidence of data mining/machine learning algorithms is also essential. Informal enquiries can be addressed to [log in to unmask].
