Dear Colleagues,

The Scottish Council on Archives are keen to develop a public awareness campaign to highlight and promote Scotland's archive collections and encourage people to engage with their stories and heritage.

We plan to align our activities this year with the national commemorations of the First World War, whilst utilising the excellent Archives and Records Association's 'Archi've Remembered' theme for the 2014 Explore Your Archive.

In 2011 the Council delivered an archives awareness project called the Edible Archive. You can read more about this on the website at: http://www.scottisharchives.org.uk/discover/awareness/ediblearchive. The project was very successful and we are keen to use this work as a strong foundation for activities in 2014 by focussing on the theme of food, drink and recipes during WWI.

The first step is to ask services in Scotland if you are interested in participating by sending us some brief information (via email to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) about any items or records in your collection which you think might fit with the theme. Some things to consider:

* Food and lifestyle leading up to the outbreak of WWI

*         Agriculture and food production

* Family recipes and household tips from the period

* Official advice and guidelines, or propaganda

*         Unofficial 'activities'

*         Rationing

*         Medicines and home remedies

* The impact and aftermath of WWI

Please get in touch by Monday 18 August. We don't need huge amounts of detail at this stage - a brief expression of interest in participating and an indication that you have items that might fit with the theme.

We are also keen to hear about any community groups in your area who may be interested in participating and would appreciate your help by passing along this email or the following link: http://www.scottisharchives.org.uk/news/announcements/ww1.

Best wishes,
Ben
