one more thing, Jane:  the text as Gallica presents it (or at least as it appears on my screen)  is confused:  you have to read the half-lines on the left all the way to the end and then the half-lines on the right side - in other words, there should have been two columns of verse, but it has been run into one column!

I’m rather fond of the carol “The builders” from the Oxford Book of Carols - which, irritatingly, mentions its origins in a 22-verse song called “Venez à Saint-Maurice”, before giving another set of French words entirely.

 

Can anyone find me the 22 verses?  The internet seems not to know them, but it may be that it is too late at night for my search-brain to be properly turned on...
