Hi All

We have just advertised for a new Chair in Earthquake Science. The advert is pasted below.

The University of Otago seeks a research leader in the field of Earthquake Science.

The appointee is expected to promote the development of Otago as an international hub for fault and earthquake research with strong links to the international community. The new Chair will co-ordinate a multi-disciplinary research effort to understand relationships between fault structure and earthquake processes, incorporating a significant input from their own area of expertise. Applicants in the field of earthquake seismology are particularly encouraged to apply, but researchers with expertise in other areas of Earthquake Science will also be considered.

The Chair will be expected to develop new thematic and/or regional research programmes, capitalising especially on links to research institutes around the Pacific Rim. They will develop and lead a training and outreach programme aimed at students, graduates, professionals and the wider community.

The University of Otago is particularly well located for research into fault and earthquake phenomena: active shortening across the Pacific - Australia plate boundary, defined by the Alpine Fault and numerous subsidiary structures, is responsible for the dynamic landscape of the South Island of New Zealand. The University has a vibrant research culture with significant existing expertise and facilities (across several departments) relevant to fault and earthquake science and significant support for developing new research programmes and facilities.
