There is evidence to suggest that the risk of involvement in violence (including involvement in gangs and the use of guns and knives) is increased by:

How can SFSC help?

We know that warm and authoritative parenting is key in preventing children and young people from becoming involved with gangs, guns and violence.  SFSC can foster a positive style of parenting, and promote the social competence, self-esteem and solution building skills of children and young people.

What have we been doing?

The Race Equality Foundation has been working with a range of partners in Croydon, Leeds and Haringey to develop an enhanced version of the SFSC parenting programme.  We have targeted areas which have a greater risk of children and young people being involved in gangs, guns and violence, and have developed a new film resource which is designed to trigger discussion and plans for individual, family and community action.

Video launch

This event will look at the context of violence and its impact on communities, parents and children.  We will have speakers from areas affected by these issues, that have been piloting the SFSC enhanced programme for parents and young people.

We will show our new film resource and talk about how the programme is supporting families affected by these issues.
