Primary research question:

To identify factors associated with poor asthma control in a paediatric population.

Secondary research questions:

To determine whether low socioeconomic status is associated with poor asthma control.

To determine if poor spacer/inhaler technique is a factor contributing to poor asthma control.

To determine whether the low level of knowledge of asthma of caregiver/ patient is associated with poor control.

To determine if more frequent contact with health professional is associated with better asthma control.

To identify which trigger factors are associated with poor control in the study population.

Factors to be measured:

1. Asthma control level (according to GINA Guidelines, grouping patients into 3 groups controlled, partially controlled and poorly controlled)

2. Exposure to trigger factors (Cigarette smoke, pets etc)

3. Parental Asthma Knowledge score (awaiting permission to use an established questionnaire for this)

4. Socioeconomic status of household

5. Health professional interaction/ education of parent
