I use our VLE to return marks - which I usually moderate in any case, so the marks returned are the final moderated version.

Using one of the reports from WebPA - typically the "Student Grades (by group)" CSV version, as this can then be manipulated in Excel.
The Name column - in the format
Surname, Forename (StudentID)
can be easily split. E.g. in Excel use the Data, Text to Columns, Delimited Options, and specify "(" as the delimiter.
Once you have the columns of Names, Student IDs Search and Replace to remove the ) from the ID column.

I then work through the teams, moderating marks that need it (usually where a very low contributor leads to an exaggerated boost for the other team members) to create a "Final Mark" column.

I usually add overall comments to a new "COMMENTS" column for each team (copied for each team member).

For our VLE (a Sakai based one), a relatively quick way to import the marks into the VLE is to then copy and paste (values) from this spread sheet, Delete all columns except for
	 Student ID, Final Mark, Comments
Save As CSV this individual worksheet, then use the import facility in Gradebook to import this CSV data and return to students.

N.B. I also use this on modules with multiple markers, as we can individually assess the teams, then combine the final comments and marks by adding up partial marks (of either sub elements to give a total) and/or of averaging across multiple markers, as well as concatenating comments to produce a single comments entry.

Having said all that, the new WebPA 2.0 with LTI connector should enable you to import marks from WebPA directly into the gradebook of a VLE that supports this. Though they would be unmoderated.

In terms of Julie's request:
Facilities in WebPA to moderate marks and add Rich Text comments for each team, and to be able to export as a CSV or XML format:
Student ID, Final Mark, Comments
would be useful, especially if the comments allowed for overall team comments along with comments for/to individual students.

Something for the agenda of the next WebPA SiG when we organse it!

Regards
 Neil

Hi Michele,
As Paul mentioned this isn't something that WebPA currently does, but this is a requirement our lecturers have. We're planning to scope out some requirements for developing something that would provide the marks and moderated comments and welcome any thoughts from the community on what's needed from your perspective.

WebPA does not feed the numeric grades back to students, only general feedback about their performance relative to the group (and only if you enable that option, which it sounds like you haven't). If you want to give the grades to students you will have to arrange to do it manually.

Subject: How do students get their mark back?

Dear all,

I am trying to e-mail my students to tell them how they can find their mark out for their work.

They click on WebPA and see their marked assignment highlighted in pink.

I didn't click to give them feedback - I just want them to get their own individual mark for the work. How do they do this? (It's very hard trying to work without having a student view!)

Michele
