I agree with Chris. A single advert or reviews of the books concerned are fine; it is the dozens of inane comments that follow, regarding spelling or the merit or otherwise of postings (eg the many emails that are flying around over this topic) that are unacceptable. For me they are both useful and interesting, and really don't amount to a large quantity of emails. I would also point out that funds for the calendar are going to worthwhile causes and, in my opinion, the wider the advertising for such things the better - especially given the financial difficulties faced by many charitable organisations at present. As a compromise emails about such things could include in the subject heading 'notification' or 'advert' or some agreed term, then those list members who wish to avoid them can set their own accounts to filter them straight to junk mail - as it appears the majority would prefer to still have access to this information?
