Dear All,

I came across this article and I thought it would be of interest to the list.

http://www.edexec.co.uk/news/2154/schools-%22taking-risks%22-with-pupil-data-collection/

The article refers to some research by two academics on school security. “The research paper entitled Identity and biometrics - convenience at the cost of privacy in UK schools was presented during a session on ‘head teachers and the database state'.”

I cannot find the article online.

The security tool that they mention, for schools, can be found at this link. http://www.360safe.org.uk/Files/Documents/School-E-SafetyV3

I was wondering if anyone used these and found them of use.  Would it be worth developing something for creating a data protection health check  within your organisation?

Here is the ICO’s link on biometrics and data protection

http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_the_public/topic_specific_guides/schools/fingerprinting.aspx

I hope this is of interest and use.

Best,

Lawrence
