Thank you for alerting us to this. There seems to be a heated debate regarding whether he was actually defrocked and was acting independently or whether his “work” was con tinuing to be sanctioned by the Serbian Orthodox Church. I have been discussing the situation this morning with another EFTC Board Member and our thinking is that we should write formally to Nils Muižnieks, the EU Commissioner for Human Rights; Dr. Dejan Popovic, Serbian Ambassador to the UK; and Salil Shetty, Secretary General of Amnesty International.
It would be a help if Samir and other list members from the Balkans area could provide me with additional information on this story so that I can be as informed as possible in putting together a formal letter. The B92 site provided by Samir is obviously in Serbian and the Google Translate is not particularly helpful. There is an English language version (though it’s quite short) buried in their website at:

The priest was not alone in operating of the treatment centar. Behind him there is a whole movement which support such approach in the sense of logistic, funding, parent support and so on. On the other side there are people involved in drug treatment without a capacity to confront such phenomena. I have watched TV show in which the killer priest manege to convince public that is good what his doing. Some of most famous drug treatment professionals in Serbia were not capable to denial on proper way what he was saying.
We need to educate politicians, churches, ministry representatives, governmental officals and other stakeholders what is treatment about. Especially here on Balkans where we lack of funds and adequate surveys which shows real facts about the sucesfulnes of TC programs.
We need Balkan TC conference, we need EFTC to do some action. If not, there will be other cases of abuse of treatment and lack of funding and closing down for those who apply responsible love and concern.
Most list members will (I imagine) be pleased to here that the anger over this issue has resulted in significant changes:
