> Ed, I can't make much of Photo no. 1, but PHoto no. 2 looks to me like a view of the distal (astragalar) surface of the calcaneum of a horse or ass; probably horse from the size. It could also be cattle; I'd need to see a lateral or medial view to be more certain.
