Re. 70th anniversary commemoration and survivors' reunion - re. the 1943 Vaughansfield School fire tragedy in rural Flamstead (St James, Jamaica).

Please find attached a flyer about the forthcoming 70th anniversary commemoration event to remember the victims of the Vaughansfield School fire tragedy, which took place in Flamstead, Jamaica, in the parish of St James on 25th August 1943. The 2013 memorial event will serve as a reunion for the families and friends of the seven deceased children, the survivors of the disaster, and many others from the wider Jamaican diaspora who wish to mark and commemorate this occasion.

If you are interested in attending the memorial and reunion event on 21st February 2013, please contact the organisers directly c/o:

UK contact = John ('Roy') Burns - Email: [log in to unmask]

Jamaican contact = Eann Singh (Headteacher, Vaughansfield School) - Email: [log in to unmask]

Telephone contact details for both organisers are provided in the attached 2-page PDF flyer.

For those wishing to find out more historical information about the Vaughansfield School fire tragedy, please read John ('Roy') Burns' survivor's story, published in the Jamaica Gleaner in 2010 (titled, 'The 1943 Lightning Tragedy: A Survivor's Reflection')  at http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20100308/news/news1.html

FYI: My father and his younger sister (Vincent and Sally Dixon) were both survivors of the tragedy and will be attending the reunion in Flamstead next year. Please pass this information on to relevant contacts in your wider networks to help Roy and the other organisers locate and inform other surviving elders about this important reunion event.

Thank you.

Carol Dixon
