People First groups in the UK have used oral history techniques. There is some info online and some videos about one documenting the experiences of people who had lived at Ely Hospital (near Cardiff in Wales). Ely is particularly important in UK institutionalisation history as abuses there resulted in the Ely Report, which began to drive through reform and then closure. -- Mitzi
