Dear All,

I would like to let you know about 2 vacancies we are currently recruiting
for at the English Folk Dance and Song Society.

* *

*CATALOGUER (THE FULL ENGLISH PROJECT), TWO F/T POSITIONS AVAILABLE*

*BACKGROUND INFORMATION*

* *

*The English Folk Dance and Song Society* (EFDSS) is the national folk arts
development organisation for England.

It is multi-faceted - a membership society; England’s folk arts centre
(Cecil Sharp House); an education, training and development agency; a
publisher; an advocate and lobbyist on behalf of the folk arts; and
custodian of the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library - England's folk music
and dance archive - which was recently awarded Designated status by the
Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA). In October 2009, EFDSS was
awarded Regularly Funded Organisation status and is now one of the Arts
Council England’s new National Portfolio Organisations, with funding
confirmed to march 2015.

*The Full English** *is EFDSS’s new two and a half year project to make
available the resources of 10 of the major folk collections in England
through a new web-site and a major education and community learning
programme in each of the nine English regions. *The Full English will also
be EFDSS’s biggest learning and participation programme to date.* The
project has been made possible through a grant of £585,400 from the
Heritage Lottery Fund* *(HLF), with additional funding from National Folk
Music Fund.

EFDSS will be digitising collections held within the Vaughan Williams
Memorial Library (VWML) at Cecil Sharp House, and significant folk
collections from the archives of project partners: the British Library in
London, Clare College in Cambridge, the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, the
Folklore Society Library and Archive at University College London, and the
Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre. By joining these individual
collections together through a single web portal, *The Full English
*will* *provide
a context for this huge wealth of material documenting the cultural
heritage of England bringing together the collections of Harry Albino, Lucy
Broadwood, Clive Carey, Percy Grainger, Maud Karpeles, Frank Kidson, Thomas
Fairman Ordish, Cecil Sharp, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Alfred Williams to
create the most comprehensive searchable database of British folk songs,
tunes, dances and customs in the world.

These manuscript collections will form the foundation for education and
community learning programmes to be run across the nine English regions in
partnership with leading cultural organisations: Cecil Sharp House, London,
where EFDSS is based; the British Library and Sound Connections in London;
SoundLINCS and Lincoln Drill Hall in Lincoln; Cambridge City
Council/Cambridge Folk Festival; Folkworks/The Sage in Gateshead; The Met
in Bury; The Stables in Milton Keynes; Colston Hall/ Bristol Music Trust in
Bristol; mac (the Midlands Arts Centre) in Birmingham, and Opera North in
Leeds.

Over the course of the project, some 13,250 people of all ages will come in
to direct contact with *The Full English* through schools and community
activities, and it is expected that about 223 volunteers will engage with
the project. In addition there will be an estimated c40,000 hits on the new
archive website in the first year, rising to c 140,000 in four years.

EFDSS will also work in partnership with education organisations in each
region, to increase awareness and knowledge of folk in education by
training arts educators and teachers, providing educational resources,
regional learning events, and creative projects in primary and secondary
schools.
