Dear colleagues, I'm wondering if anyone has experience of dealing with a request for a GTT in a patient who needs thickener added in order to be able to drink the glucose solution. This issue arose yesterday but in the end the patient managed to take the glucose drink without added thickener. However, as it is quite possible this issue will arise again I thought it would be worthwhile to check if anyone else has dealt with such a situation In our hospital we use Nutilis Powder (Nutricia) as a thickening agent for patients with dysphagia. This is a starch-based agent but is claimed to be amylase-resistant. The ingredients are listed as Ingredients Maltodextrin, modified maize starch (E1442), tara gum, xanthan gum, guar gum. NUTILIS POWDER IS GLUTEN AND LACTOSE FREE. AVERAGE CONTENTS UNIT per 100g Protein: g 0.2 Carbohydrate: g 86.0 sugars g 1.4 polysaccharides g 84.5 Fat: g 0.1 Dietary fibre: g 6.4 The question is whether one could interpret a GTT result if it was done. Any help would be appreciated. best wishes.
