Jan,

In terms of biblical literature, Exodus 4:11 is also quite helpful. As far as theory/academic texts, the work of Jeremy Schipper, Nancy Eiesland, Amos Yong, and Deborah Creamer among others (though about half those folks have been mentioned here already in citational form) has been foundational for my thinking. Much of my own academic and praxis work is interested in these sorts of intersections, particularly through the lens of 19th-century Afro-Protestantism(s), so it's great to see this sort of conversation going on!

Best,
Joshua

What about John 9 there are some interesting aspects to that story in so far as challenging conventional notions of impairment being the  reward for sin, either one’s own or parents. A refutation of the old Glenn Hoddle proposition if one remembers that outburst from years back.

Dear all,

I'm interested in striking up a discussion with any of you who might be interested in a Disability Studies/Theology mix.  Now is the time I really miss Christopher Newell - a giant in both fields.  I've been reading and thinking about Mark 2, the story of the paralysed man and am keen to explore some theological-social-model ideas,

thanks

jan
