Always a joy when someone on the list complains about spelling at the same
time as they’re committing a ‘spelling atrocity’ themselves.

Btw, there are far too many spaces in that sentence. Perhaps a word
processing re-fresher course could kick that into touch? ;)

PS: Hi Hayley – in addition to the UWE course - you may want to attend the
annual British Science Association Science Communication Conference (in May
2012):

cationConference/ScienceCommunicationConference.htm

The British Science Association also has a Media Fellowship programme:

The Royal Society runs short media and communication courses:
http://royalsociety.org/training/communication-media/

The SciComm Group at Imperial run short courses occasionally – although I
think there may have to be a minimum number of participants. Worth
contacting them to see...

I’m sure you’ll also find some suggestions via the ABSW network (if you
don’t know about that already): http://www.absw.org.uk/

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Best Sci. Comm. Courses/Conferences?

Hi all!

I have just found out that I have some money in my PhD grant to pay for
transferrable skills training and my supervisor has given me free reign to
blow it all on sci. comm. training!
So I was wondering- in your opinion which are the best value for money short
courses and conferences in outreach/ science communication? Obviously what I
end up doing will depend on many factors but I thought this would be an
interesting talking point if nothing else. What would you spend the money
on?

Best wishes

Hayley

(P.s we are talking a £2500- unfortunately not an unlimited pot of gold!)
