This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed national NIHR School for Public Health Research at PCMD, in Truro, a leading academic centre with recognised excellence in applied public health research.

The PCMD wishes to recruit one Research Fellow (0.5FTE) and one Associate Research Fellow (1.0FTE) to conduct a systematic review of the evidence for the health benefits of being involved in conservation/ environmental enhancement activities.

These posts are funded by the NIHR School for Public Health Research and are available for 12 months from April 2012.  The successful applicants will undertake all the relevant tasks associated with conducting a systematic review and evidence synthesis of diverse evidence in order to assess the broad health impacts of participation in conservation/ environmental enhancement activities.  

You will join the European Centre for Environment and Human Health (ECEHH) in Truro. (http://www.ecehh.org/) ECEHH investigates the interconnections between the environment and human health.  Established in 2010 with support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Centre aims to undertake world leading and internationally relevant research which makes a substantial contribution to the understanding of the relationship between the environment and human health; supports the development of a knowledge economy in Cornwall and beyond; and contributes to the formulation of national and international policy in the area.

The post will include all systematic review processes: identifying relevant literature, data extraction, critical appraisal and synthesis of a range of qualitative and quantitative research.  Ability to write for publication is important.  The Research Fellow will additionally be responsible for day to day project management.   

You will have systematic review experience and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. You will have a good first degree and preferably a qualification at postgraduate level in a relevant subject (such as in research methodology).  You will have experience of undertaking systematic reviews and synthesis of quantitative research.  Experience of undertaking systematic reviews and synthesis of qualitative research and using methods such as realist synthesis will be advantageous.

The starting salary will be £31,798 to £33,734 (pro rata) on Grade F for the Research Fellow and £24,370 to £26,063 on Grade E for the Associate Research Fellow depending on qualifications and experience.
