I thought this might be of interest to the AGJ listerv. This Freedom
University was founded in the tradition of the freedom schools in the US
south in the 1960s.

Thanks!

       *Friends and Allies,*

Freedom University<http://freedomuniversitygeorgia.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3b1e0f0c9693eb67668c49bbb&id=31c5442f09&e=9f6b761fea>
opened
its doors in October of this year in defiance of the USG Board of Regents’ ban
on undocumented

offering college-level courses for free, regardless of immigration status.
While we succeeded in our mission to allow students to pursue higher
education in spite of harsh immigration law and policy, we now need *your *help
in order for them to achieve their ultimate goal of attending accredited,
four-year institutions.

*Donate today to ensure that our students can apply to the colleges of
their choice.*<http://freedomuniversitygeorgia.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3b1e0f0c9693eb67668c49bbb&id=d4794702ee&e=9f6b761fea>

Eleven of the students enrolled at Freedom University graduated high school
with GPAs over 3.5. They are accomplished
students<http://freedomuniversitygeorgia.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3b1e0f0c9693eb67668c49bbb&id=0842cb6d19&e=9f6b761fea>,
highly motivated to pursue post-secondary education. They worked hard
throughout their years in school and would be admitted by several of the
most reputable colleges and universities in The States. Their commitment to
attend Freedom University’s American Civilization 1 course, despite the
fact that the course has yet to receive official accreditation, proves just
how invested they are in continuing their education. They are an ambitious
group who want to contribute to their communities by pursuing careers in
health, law, engineering, and teaching.

We would like to encourage each of them to apply to as many four-year
colleges as possible. Among the many difficulties currently faced by
students who are both undocumented and economically disadvantaged is that
in order to attend college they need full scholarships from private
sources. Since colleges that offer this kind of financial aid are also the
most competitive, our students need to apply to more schools than most
applicants to better their chances at scholarships.

Freedom University is committed not only to lifting the
ban<http://freedomuniversitygeorgia.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3b1e0f0c9693eb67668c49bbb&id=9420e8e9e0&e=9f6b761fea>on
undocumented students in Georgia, but also to helping our students
cover
the cost of at least one college application and, if possible, the cost of
the SAT test. *Each application is $60-$75 and the SAT is $50 (not
including subject tests), so we are trying to raise at least $800 to send
these applications off as soon as possible. If just 40 people would donate
$20, our goal will be met.*

*Please help our students make their dream of pursuing higher education at
our country's top schools come
true.*<http://freedomuniversitygeorgia.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3b1e0f0c9693eb67668c49bbb&id=5c7826173d&e=9f6b761fea>
