Hello Curwen – we do a lot via e-mail with distance learning
students – mainly enquiries about usernames/passwords and literature searching
Science Direct, Ingenta, etc). Live chat might be a bit difficult for us from
a staff cover point of view – although I suppose if we had it so it ‘pinged’ when
someone appeared – it is not much different to taking an enquiry by telephone
at the desk! It is something that we would consider – so I might be in touch again
to see how it works for you.
We do have live chat – but ours is the old fashioned (and
best!) variety – over the Service Desk!

We are currently trialling Meebo (free software) and the service can best be
described as very relaxed!
