If this is factual (given the source) I would hope the ICO will come down heavily on them for this, so far he has pussy-footed over the fines but now would be a good time to put a marker down and say, enough is enough.

Funnily I am at a one day conference with him tomorrow, I may just raise the issue :O)

The Sun* are reporting that London Health Programmes, an NHS research agency has lost, or had stolen, an unencrypted laptop(s) containing sensitive personal data of …er…8.6 million people - no names, but other identifying data. No one else seems to have picked this up yet, but the story suggests the ICO is involved.
 
This could be a big one...
