UKeiG Course - Don't miss out: Mobile access to information resources

**Apologies for cross-posting**

Mobile access to information resources

to be held at

CILIP, 7 Ridgmount Street, London, WC1E 7AE

Wednesday, 13th April 2011, 9.30 – 16.30

Course Outline

Over the last two years there has been dramatic growth in the way in which smart phones and tablet PCs are used to access a wide range of information resources. Publishers of legal, business and scientific information are now adapting their services to take advantage of software ‘apps’ which provide one touch access to information. Many organisations are also evaluating how to provide access to intranets and other enterprise applications.

This course will provide a non-technical introduction to the technology, illustrate the range of services available from publishers, consider the implications for intranet managers and outline the elements of a mobile information access strategy.

Among the subjects to be covered will be

·       How to adapt intranet content for mobile access

·       The benefits and challenges of mobile search

·       How to evaluate mobile information service providers

·       Making effective use of locational information

·       Making the business case for investment in mobile applications

Who should attend

Intranet and web managers who are recognising the potential of delivering to smart phones and tablet pcs and need a balanced perspective on the technological and management opportunities and challenges.

Course Presenter

The course will be presented by Martin White, Managing Director, Intranet Focus Ltd. He has been tracking developments in mobile technology for 15 years, and is currently working as an adviser to a global telecommunications company. Over the last year he has been monitoring developments and the way in which publishers and organisations are beginning to take advantage of smart phone technology.
