The ARA Data Standards Group will be holding its next meeting on Thursday,

24 February 2011, 2.00 pm at the British Library, Euston Road, London.

Location details for the BL can be found at:

http://www.bl.uk/aboutus/quickinfo/loc/stp/index.html

There will be   presentations on two subjects of very topical interest: Cloud Computing and Linked Data.

Nicole Schulz (Aberystwyth University) will be discussing a project on cloud computing, which has produced an archivist’s toolkit . This will help archivists assist in developing  a cloud computing strategy and specific cloud service requirements for their organisations.

Jane Stevenson (Archives Hub)  will talk about Locah (Linked Open Copac and Archives Hub), a ground-breaking project to provide descriptions for the Semantic Web. Locah will  output the rich and diverse descriptions on the Hub as Linked Data. This requires a whole new approach to thinking about data as ‘open data’; data will need to be processed  much more effectively to enable  connections to be made between all sorts of data sources. This truly represents an 'open data' approach, but it does present a range of challenges that Jane will address in this presentation.

Places for the meeting are limited, and as interest in the meeting is likely to be high, could you please let me know as soon as

possible if you would like to attend.  The meeting will finish around 4 pm.

If you require any further information about the meeting, please do get in touch with me.
