SESSION C1 - Iain Chalmers on 'Reducing waste in producing and reporting evidence
The research community receives billions of pounds worth of funding every year from the public, but some gross inefficiencies within the research community mean that people are not receiving as much as they should receive in information dividends from their investment. This presentation will show why and how some of these inefficiencies must be reduced.

After this session the participants will know the principal sources of waste in producing and reporting research and know what they can do to reduce waste.
Iain Chalmers is currently coordinator of the James Lind Initiative, which has established the UK Database of Uncertainties about the Effects of Treatments; the James Lind Library, which explains fair tests of treatments and illustrates their evolution.
