Archives for London is the independent voice for archives  in our Capital - a unique organisation bringing together archive users and practitioners to get the most of historic sources in and about London.



With great speakers, including a keynote speech 'Londoners by Choice' by Professor Stephen Inwood, covering a wide range of histories and archival sources, the AfL conference will be a great day of learning and inspiration.

Coming to London



As a bustling centre of trade, commerce, culture and politics London has always been a popular destination attracting millions of people from around the UK and the world.



AfL's annual conference will explore why individuals and groups came to London, and share the role of archives in telling and re-telling stories of migration.  With speakers drawn from archive users and practitioners, the day will host a fascinating range of research and experience:



-       Dr Stephen Inwood - Londoners by Choice (keynote address)

-       Dr Hakim Adi - West African Students Union: in photographs

-       Else Churchill - Sources for migrants at Society of Genealogists

-       Vandana Patel - London Chinese groups at RGS-IBG archive

-       Clifford Pereira - Cogwheels of the Empire: history & stereotype

-       Steven Spencer - Salvation Army Rescue Homes

-       Peter Tilley - Inward Migration from Home Counties to London
